The keyboard uses Squeekboard with Daily and Terminal layouts. Its lifecycle belongs to the session, while layout and package integration belong to the device implementation. A second keyboard process is not the repair for a missing key or a stale open-state flag.
Typing, text input, terminal shortcuts and dictation have different acceptance paths. Shared dictation starts the transcription command; the keyboard reflects its state. It does not become a second speech service.
Ordinary input is part of the system
A keyboard that only appears in a test window has not passed phone acceptance. Showing and hiding, focus changes, orientation, long presses and interactions with the Dock all matter. Package dependency checks retain the required text and XKB data without pulling in a desktop environment.
What remains open
- Focus, layout, terminal and physical typing acceptance remain device-specific.
- Dictation depends on separate service and credential delivery.
